Police Foil Cattle Rustling Attempt in Katsina State

Katsina State, Nigeria — Police officers in Katsina State successfully prevented a cattle rustling attempt during a nighttime gun battle with suspected bandits in Wakaji village, located in the Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area.

The confrontation took place on Monday night, according to a post on social media platform X by security analyst Bakatsine. The bandits reportedly targeted the village with the intent of stealing cattle.

Officers from the Dutsin-Ma Police Division responded quickly to reports of the incursion, engaging the assailants in a fierce exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, one suspected bandit was shot, while the remaining attackers fled. However, reports indicate that the bandits managed to escape with 10 cattle.

The gunfire caused several of the cattle to scatter into nearby bushes. One local resident sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was promptly transported to the General Hospital in Dutsin-Ma for treatment, where they are currently being stabilized.

Bakatsine acknowledged the swift action of the police, emphasizing the role of rapid intervention in mitigating such attacks on rural communities.
