Detectives Halt Truck Hijacking in Ogun State, Recover Stolen Vehicle and Improvised Weapon
Ijebu Imushin, Ogun State — Authorities from the Ijebu Imushin Division of the Ogun State Police Command disrupted a truck hijacking attempt on Wednesday, recovering a stolen DAF truck and an improvised wooden rifle.
According to reports, the driver of the truck, which was transporting motor spare parts, was intercepted by armed suspects in the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North. The assailants forcibly seized control of the vehicle.
In a statement released by the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Thursday, it was confirmed that officers worked in conjunction with highway patrol units to respond swiftly to the incident. Their efforts pressured the suspects to abandon the truck and flee the scene.
During a thorough inspection of the recovered vehicle, officers found a wooden rifle wrapped in black tape, believed to have been used in the hijacking.
“The prompt intervention of the police effectively thwarted the criminal operation and prevented the loss of property,” Babaseyi stated.
The driver sustained minor injuries to his right ankle during the incident but received immediate first aid. Police are actively pursuing the suspects with the aim of apprehending and prosecuting them.
Babaseyi urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the police command’s commitment to the safety of road users and local residents.
