Ogun State Police Investigate Midnight Attack on Olabisi Onabanjo University Hostels

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a midnight assault on student hostels at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), located on the Ibogun Campus.

According to reports, a group of approximately 12 armed individuals invaded the hostels on Saturday, triggering panic among students and prompting many to flee their rooms. Eyewitness accounts shared on social media describe the assailants as heavily armed, firing shots and stealing personal belongings, including phones and laptops.

Some students sustained injuries during their attempts to escape the attack. A social media post from Jinadu Michael Mabayomije detailed the incident, including reports of a vehicle being stolen from a student who was carjacked during the chaos.

The post emphasized the need for immediate action, calling on the Ogun State government and police to investigate the crime, apprehend those responsible, and ensure the safety of students on campus. The message underscored that such incidents of criminality on university grounds are unacceptable.

In response to the event, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, stated that the Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun Police Division and the Area Commander were dispatched to the scene to assess the situation. Babaseyi urged the public to remain calm and assured them that the safety of the students is a priority.
