Uyo Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robbery Syndicate Member
UYO, Akwa Ibom – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect believed to be part of an armed robbery syndicate following an incident involving the theft of a tricycle at gunpoint along Mbak Itam.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, authorities reported the recovery of several items from the suspect, identified as Wisdom Edet. Items retrieved included a tricycle, a laptop, a PlayStation 4 gaming console, and various accessories such as face caps, a power bank, and clothing items.
According to John, police operatives were conducting a stop-and-search operation when they detected a tricycle with the registration number PBT 322 QN. The vehicle, occupied by Edet and two passengers, reportedly failed to stop when signaled and attempted to flee.
The police pursued the vehicle, during which the passengers exited and fled on foot. Edet, however, was apprehended. A subsequent search of the tricycle yielded items suspected to be linked to criminal activities.
Later that day, a victim, identified only as Samuel, reported to the police, claiming that his laptop and gaming console were among the stolen goods. He recognized some clothing items recovered from Edet as similar to those worn by the assailants during the robbery.
Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare praised the officers for their quick action and professionalism. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
