Police officer killed In fatal third mainland bridge crash — LASTMA

A police officer lost his life in a road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos involving a Lexus vehicle, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Authorities reported that the incident occurred around the Adekunle axis, as a Lexus Jeep, identified by the registration number EPE 765 JN, collided with the officer’s motorcycle. The officer sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the accident, the driver of the Lexus turned himself in at the Adekunle Police Division. LASTMA expressed its condolences, describing the incident as tragic.
In response to the crash, LASTMA officials and personnel from the Nigeria Police Force arrived quickly to manage the situation and control traffic flow in the area. Emergency measures were implemented to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of other road users.
The agency detailed that traffic cones and cautionary devices were placed strategically around the site, while police began preliminary documentation and investigation of the incident. Efforts to recover the involved vehicles were also initiated, enabling the restoration of normal traffic conditions on the bridge.
Despite the severity of the accident, LASTMA noted that traffic was managed effectively thanks to the prompt actions of its officers.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, urged drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and maintain safe speed limits to help prevent further tragedies on Lagos roads. He emphasized the importance of valuing human life and compliance with traffic laws to reduce road fatalities.
