Police recover body of Correctional Service officer from drainage in Calabar

Body of Correctional Service Official Found in Calabar Drainage Channel

The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of the body of Deputy Superintendent of Correctional Service Michael Apepende from a drainage channel in Calabar.

The body was located around 10:30 a.m. on Friday along Barrack Road, near the Nigerian Chronicle House. Police officers from the Akim Division responded to reports from the public regarding the discovery.

Apepende was identified as a personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service. His remains have been transferred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, where an autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the circumstances and cause of death.

According to Police Public Relations Officer ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the command has initiated an investigation into the incident. He stated that additional details will be provided as the investigation unfolds.

Authorities are urging the public to refrain from speculation while inquiries into the officer’s death are ongoing.
