Police seek donations for MOPOL officer battling brain injury after on-duty accident

The Nigeria Police Force has initiated a fundraising campaign to assist Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Oyadele John, a Mobile Police Officer with MOPOL 22 in Ikeja, Lagos. ASP Oyadele is currently undergoing treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) following injuries sustained in an on-duty accident.
A police wireless message dated August 20, 2026, indicated that the accident occurred on July 5 while Oyadele was assigned to special duty in Osun State. Medical examinations revealed a serious neurological condition, with bleeding in his brain, which subsequently led to a partial stroke.
The police have stated that the officer requires ₦8 million for urgent, life-saving medical treatment. They have appealed to personnel across various Mobile Police formations to make voluntary contributions towards covering his medical expenses.
This directive, issued by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police responsible for the Mobile Police Force, emphasized the urgency of the appeal as a matter of personnel welfare. Commanding officers have been instructed to personally oversee the fundraising efforts and ensure that all donations are channeled appropriately.
According to the message, “AP/No. 154023 ASP Oyadele John attached to MOPOL 22 Ikeja is currently hospitalized at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, following an on-duty accident on 05/07/2026 while on special duty in Osun State. Medical examinations revealed a serious neurological condition, with blood found in his brain, leading to partial stroke. Officers and men of the force can send in voluntary donations to assist Mr. Oyadele.”
Police authorities have stipulated that all contributions must be collected and documented by September 4, 2026, as efforts continue to secure the necessary funds for the officer’s treatment and recovery.
