Police Service Commission Dismisses Four Officers, Disciplines 31 Others for Misconduct
ABUJA — The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the dismissal of four senior police officers and the imposition of disciplinary measures on 31 additional officers due to various acts of misconduct.
In a statement issued by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Relations, the PSC reached its decision during a plenary meeting held at its headquarters in Abuja.
The statement indicated that the dismissed officers were found guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional behavior, and actions deemed unbecoming of public officials.
Along with the dismissals, the commission implemented several disciplinary actions affecting multiple officers. Three Superintendents of Police were demoted to Deputy Superintendents, two Deputy Superintendents were reduced to the rank of Assistant Superintendents, and five Assistant Superintendents were downgraded to Inspectors.
Additionally, two officers were compulsorily retired in the public interest. Other sanctions included severe reprimands issued to ten officers, formal reprimands to five, warning letters to three, and a letter of advice to one officer. The statement also noted that seven officers were exonerated and cleared of any wrongdoing.
DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd), the chairman of the commission, reiterated the board’s zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline within the Nigeria Police Force. He affirmed that the current PSC Board under his leadership remains committed to addressing misconduct among police officers.
The PSC pledged to uphold discipline within the Force and to ensure that all instances of misconduct are met with appropriate disciplinary actions. The commission also plans to continue encouraging and rewarding exemplary performance among deserving officers through its established reward system.
