Katsina State Governor Presents N828.64 Billion Budget Proposal for 2027

KATSINA, Nigeria — Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has submitted a proposed budget of N828.64 billion for the year 2027 to the state House of Assembly for consideration. The budget, termed “Building Your Future IV,” prioritizes capital projects with an allocation of N637.91 billion, which constitutes 76.98 percent of the total budget. The remaining N190.73 billion, or 23.02 percent, is designated for recurrent expenditure.

This proposed budget is N69.23 billion lower than the approved budget for 2026. Radda attributed this reduction to a more realistic evaluation of the state’s anticipated revenue and expenses.

“We took a pragmatic, disciplined, and realistic view of both revenue and expenditure,” Radda stated during his presentation on Tuesday. “We reviewed every available funding source to ensure fiscal balance, strengthen implementation, and reduce the risk of shortfalls.”

The 2027 budget was developed based on needs identified by residents during consultations conducted across the state’s 361 wards. Each ward will have a special project selected by its residents, and the information gathered will influence government initiatives related to agriculture, small businesses, water and sanitation, women’s empowerment, environmental concerns, and security.

“Our people named their needs, weighed them, and ranked them,” Radda explained. “This budget, therefore, addresses the real and pressing needs of our communities, not assumptions made from afar.”

The social sector will receive the largest share, with N317.73 billion allocated, accounting for 38.34 percent of the budget. This is followed by the economic sector, which will receive N303.17 billion. Administrative expenses are set at N198.55 billion, while N9.19 billion is allocated for law and justice.

Five key areas will collectively receive N325.45 billion from the capital budget. Education is allocated N83.82 billion, Works and Housing N71.60 billion, Agriculture and Livestock N65.88 billion, Health N53.64 billion, and Rural Development N50.51 billion.

Radda emphasized that these allocations aim to enhance educational facilities and healthcare services, boost agricultural production, improve road and housing infrastructure, and provide better services in rural areas.

Regarding the implementation of the 2026 budget, the governor reported that as of August 28, N295.19 billion had been spent, representing 32.88 percent of the approved budget. Capital spending accounted for N193.02 billion. Radda expressed optimism that spending would increase before the end of the year, as numerous ongoing projects are slated for completion.
