Security guard shot dead in suspected cult attack at Lagos estate

A security officer named Stanley was fatally shot during an attack suspected to be connected to cult activity at Royale Estate in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State on Friday night.

Reports indicate that a group of gunmen entered the estate shortly before midnight, opening fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene. A source familiar with the situation, who requested anonymity due to safety concerns, described the attack, stating that Stanley, who was on duty at the time, was shot multiple times, including in the head.

“They stormed the estate and began shooting. Stanley was shot several times, and in the head too, before they shot in the air and fled,” the source said.

The incident sparked a flurry of reactions on social media platforms, including NaijaConfra, where users shared posts and videos alleging the involvement of cult members in the attack. However, the Lagos State Police Command has not verified claims linking the incident to cult activities.

Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the shooting in a statement issued on Monday. Preliminary information suggests that two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle perpetrated the attack.

“The incident occurred. He was shot by two unknown individuals on a motorcycle. The command has launched an investigation into the incident. No suspects have been apprehended at this time,” Adebisi stated.

The police have not disclosed the motive behind the shooting nor confirmed whether the attackers were associated with any cult group.
