‘Stop using Mr Ibu’s name to beg’ — Actor Tenkobo tackles late actor’s widow

Nigerian Actor Criticizes Widow of Late Nollywood Star for Seeking Financial Aid

Nigerian comedic actor Fred Ebere, known professionally as Tenkobo, has publicly criticized Stella Maris Okafor, the widow of the late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, for soliciting financial assistance online.

In a video released on social media by influencer King Mitchy on Wednesday, Okafor appealed to the public for help, citing difficulties in paying rent and school fees for her children.

Tenkobo, a close friend and colleague of Okafor, accused her of exploiting her late husband’s fame to extort money from the public. He raised concerns about the family’s handling of Mr. Ibu’s estate, alleging that Okafor and some family members sold his properties, including real estate investments, without proper accountability.

In his remarks, Tenkobo questioned the notion that being the wife of a celebrated actor absolves one from the responsibility of self-sufficiency. He posed a hypothetical: “What if Ibu wasn’t an actor? Shouldn’t you work or have some kind of trade?”

Tenkobo also recounted a recent conversation with Mr. Ibu’s eldest son, Valentine Okafor, during which he expressed anger over his stepmother’s claims. “This video by Stella is not her first,” he stated, noting that Okafor had previously made similar appeals while Mr. Ibu was alive.

He clarified that Mr. Ibu, who passed away two years ago, had made investments during his career and did not leave his family without resources. “He planned his life well and invested in the lives of every member of his family and associates,” Tenkobo asserted.

Tenkobo cautioned anyone considering supporting Stella Okafor, urging them not to believe her claims suggesting that Mr. Ibu left his family destitute. He concluded by demanding accountability for the family’s previous dealings with the estate, prompting concerns about the portrayal of Mr. Ibu’s legacy.
