Ogun Police Recover Firearm During Stop-and-Search Operation
Ogun State police have recovered a single-barrel long gun and six live cartridges after a suspect fled during a stop-and-search operation.
The incident took place along the Ayetoro–Olodo Road when operatives from the Aiyetoro Area Command conducted the operation. Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi reported that a male suspect, driving an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, noticed the officers from a distance and attempted to escape.
In his effort to evade capture, the suspect allegedly discarded the firearm and cartridges into a nearby bush before making his getaway, Babaseyi said. The recovered items were secured and taken to the Command’s armory for safekeeping.
Authorities are working to identify and apprehend the suspect for further investigation and potential prosecution. Babaseyi conveyed a message from Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, who praised the operatives for their vigilance and reiterated the Command’s commitment to combat illegal firearm possession.
The Commissioner assured the public that all necessary measures are being implemented to apprehend the suspect and mitigate criminal activities within the state.
