Tension in Ekiti as angry youths set police station on fire after community member’s death 

Protests Erupt After Fatal Police Incident in Isan-Ekiti

ISAN-EKITI, Nigeria — A police station in Isan-Ekiti was set ablaze by agitated youths late Friday night in response to the death of a local resident, who was allegedly killed by police officers.

The incident took place just hours before the gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday across the state, raising security concerns.

Details surrounding the events leading to the violence remain unclear. However, a video circulating on social media shows the youths storming the police facility and igniting the fire. In the footage, a deceased young man is seen lying in a pool of blood.

When reached for comment, State Police Public Relations Officer SP Abutu Sunday stated he would provide more information later. In response to inquiries regarding the cause of the protests, he advised patience, saying, “You have to hold on, I will get back to you.”

The unrest has heightened tensions ahead of the gubernatorial polls set to begin shortly.
