Gunmen Attack Kano State Community, Leaving One Dead and Several Injured
ROGO, Kano State — A violent attack in the Rogo Local Government Area on Thursday night resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, leading to increased security measures in the region.
The assault occurred around 9 p.m. in Barbaji village, Jajaye Ward, when four armed men, dressed in khaki and riding motorcycles, targeted a local vigilante member, identified as Alasan Yellow. Eyewitnesses reported that Yellow was shot at close range outside his shop, triggering panic among residents. In the ensuing chaos, another individual who attempted to come to Yellow’s aid was also shot.
The attackers then moved to a nearby vigilante office, where they fired indiscriminately, causing residents to flee for safety.
Alhaji Haruna Barhaya, the Commander of the Rogo vigilante group, confirmed the incident to local authorities, stating that one person died at the scene and several others suffered injuries of varying severity. “Four of the victims are currently receiving treatment,” Barhaya noted, adding that local security personnel promptly responded to the incident, preventing further casualties.
The injured were evacuated to local medical facilities, with one victim, reported to be in critical condition, subsequently referred to a hospital in Gwarzo for advanced care.
In response to the attack, authorities have intensified security presence in the area, deploying a joint patrol team that includes personnel from the neighboring Kiru Local Government Area and parts of Kaduna State. Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
