Terrorists kill 14 security personnel in Niger

At least 14 members of the Nigerien Defence and Security Forces were killed in a coordinated terrorist attack on Friday morning in N’Guigmi, located in the Diffa Region of southeastern Niger.
Security specialist Zagazola Makama reported the incident in a statement on his official X account. The attack began at approximately 9:30 a.m. on July 31, when heavily armed assailants approached the town from the Sabon Carré neighborhood and targeted a National Guard position near the local cemetery.
Military sources indicated that the initial assault prompted a swift military response, with reinforcements dispatched to pursue the attackers. However, responding troops encountered a well-planned ambush roughly one kilometer south of the National Guard position, leading to significant casualties.
Preliminary reports confirm that among the deceased were 10 soldiers from the Niger Armed Forces, including one officer, and four members of the National Guard.
