Tinubu’s alleged drug case takes new twist as US firm hints at video evidence

A U.S.-based political advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, indicated on Monday that it plans to submit video evidence related to allegations of drug trafficking involving Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu.

The firm made this announcement on its verified account on X, stating that the video evidence could counter President Tinubu’s efforts to invoke privacy protections over records from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) concerning his alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

“In amending our Supplemental Notice of Evidentiary Exhibits to the U.S. court, we will include the attached video transcript,” the firm wrote. “The video is truly extraordinary.”

At a recent political event organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adewale Tinubu, who is reported to be the president’s nephew, claimed, “I did that case in Chicago. It was one of my first legal matters,” and stated that he urged President Tinubu to negotiate a settlement.

However, court records reveal that Patrick S. Coffey, Esq. is listed as the attorney for President Tinubu in that particular case. No documentation, court appearance, or filing indicates that Adewale Tinubu served as legal counsel during the proceedings.

The firm emphasized the significance of this discrepancy. “First, court records show that Mr. Adewale Tinubu’s account is false. Second, the video reveals, in real time, the distortion of established facts to mislead the Nigerian public. Third, while President Tinubu seeks to keep his alleged heroin-trafficking records private, his nephew publicly discussed the Chicago proceedings during a political campaign event attended by the president,” the firm stated.

It further argued that President Tinubu cannot simultaneously seek privacy and allow public disclosure. “U.S. courts have long recognized that voluntary public disclosure can undermine privacy interests protected under Exemption 7(C). The FBI and DEA must recognize that President Tinubu is a liability, and his alleged drug-trafficking records resemble another Epstein file,” the firm added.

Von Batten-Montague-York asserted that regardless of whether there is a Republican or Democrat administration in power, the relevant files will eventually be made public.
