Nigerian Army Intensifies Operations in South-East, Apprehends Suspected Gunrunner
The Nigerian Army has announced an escalation of operations under Operation UDO KA in the South-East, resulting in the apprehension of a suspected gunrunner, the foiling of an ambush, and a raid on a criminal hideout in Abia and Imo states.
An operational report released on Tuesday by the News Agency of Nigeria detailed that troops, in cooperation with other security agencies, apprehended the suspect in the Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State. Initial investigations revealed that the individual was involved in the transportation of firearms to criminal groups, utilizing a third party from Bayelsa State.
Authorities are currently working to recover the weapons and locate additional members of the network.
In a related incident, troops encountered an ambush while investigating a burnt vehicle along the SPDC–Etekuru road in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State. The troops subsequently searched the area, recovering two burnt vehicles and evacuating two corpses for further investigation.
Additionally, troops, in collaboration with local vigilantes, raided a suspected cultist hideout in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, resulting in the arrest of five individuals. One of the suspects has reportedly agreed to divulge information leading to a suspected stash of arms in the area.
The operational activities reflect ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance security throughout the South-East region.
