Troops disrupt ransom exchange, rescue kidnap victim in Kebbi

Troops Rescue Kidnapped Woman in Kebbi State

Kebbi State, Nigeria — Troops from Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully rescued a woman who had been kidnapped and disrupted a planned ransom exchange, according to a statement from the operation’s acting spokesperson, Col. Olaniyi Osoba.

The rescue operation was initiated following credible intelligence regarding a ransom exchange involving the victim, who had been abducted from her farm last month. Osoba reported that troops mobilized to intercept the exchange. Upon noticing the advancing soldiers, the kidnappers engaged the troops in an armed confrontation.

“The criminals were overwhelmed and forced to retreat, abandoning their hostage,” Osoba stated. The rescued woman was reported to be unharmed and was subsequently taken to safety, where she was reunited with her family in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.

Following the rescue, troops conducted a search along the route taken by the kidnappers to ensure the area was secure before returning to their base. In an unrelated operation, troops carried out clearance and patrols in Ngaski Local Government Area without incident.

Col. Osoba emphasized that Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue its efforts to combat terrorism and other criminal activities in Kebbi State. He urged local residents to provide security agencies with timely information to help prevent crimes and enhance community safety.
