Troops rescue 25 abducted civilians in Katsina, Zamfara
KATSINA, Nigeria — Troops engaged in Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully rescued 25 individuals kidnapped during separate operations in Katsina and Zamfara states.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Military Information Officer, announced the rescues in a statement released Friday night. The operations took place on Thursday as troops conducted patrols and offensive missions aimed at combating terrorist activities in the region.
In Katsina State, troops from Sector 1 encountered terrorists during a night patrol near Kwanar Kura in the Sabuwa Local Government Area. Danja reported that the soldiers engaged the militants with heavy fire, prompting them to flee into nearby bushes. Following their escape route, the troops rescued two individuals who had been kidnapped along the Dandume-Damari Road. Additionally, two motorcycles belonging to the fleeing terrorists were recovered.
Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, troops from Sector 2 rescued 23 civilians during a fighting patrol on the outskirts of Wuya Town in the Anka Local Government Area. The rescued group consisted of three men and 20 women, all of whom had reportedly been abducted from Gummi Local Government Area and held captive for approximately three weeks. The victims were evacuated for medical attention and further debriefing.
Danja emphasized that these successful operations reflect the military’s ongoing commitment to protecting civilians, disrupting terrorist activities, and rescuing those held captive.
