Troops Rescue 31 Kidnapped Victims in Zamfara State

Anka, Zamfara State — Troops from the 1 Brigade, Combat Team 6, rescued 31 individuals who had been kidnapped while patrolling along the Bagega-Kawaye road in the Anka Local Government Area.

According to a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the rescue occurred at approximately 6:33 a.m. on May 28. The soldiers encountered the victims during routine patrols in the region.

Reports indicate that the victims had spent several weeks in captivity, having been abducted by suspected armed groups operating in the forested areas of Zamfara State.

The rescue operation was aided by an airstrike conducted by a Nigerian Air Force helicopter gunship in the western part of the Bagega forest. Following the airstrike, the fleeing victims were located and secured by ground troops during subsequent operations.

Security officials stated that efforts are underway to reunite the rescued individuals with their families after conducting necessary medical assessments and security checks.

The military has reiterated its commitment to ongoing air and ground operations aimed at dismantling criminal organizations and restoring peace in Zamfara and the broader North-West region.
