Nigerian Army Rescues Kidnapped Victims in Taraba State
Taraba State, Nigeria — Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, successfully rescued two individuals who had been kidnapped during a patrol in the Lau Local Government Area early Saturday.
The operation, carried out on July 26, stemmed from credible intelligence regarding suspected kidnappers operating in the Lande Jessi region. According to a statement released by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, the troops initiated the mission following reports of armed attacks on the Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages. During these assaults, two residents were abducted and supplies were stolen.
The targeted search and rescue operation led to the recovery of the victims, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, who had been held captive for approximately one week.
Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, praised the troops for their prompt and professional response, emphasizing that the operation underscores the military’s commitment to ensuring safety and security in Taraba State.
The brigade commander noted that the action aligns with directives from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, aimed at combating criminal activity and promoting lasting peace throughout Nigeria. He encouraged the troops to maintain vigilance and bolster their ongoing efforts to restrict criminal movements in the area.
In his statement, Akaliro assured residents of the Nigerian Army’s dedication to protecting law-abiding citizens and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist with ongoing security operations.
