Troops rescue two kidnap victims in Benue after rapid response operation

Troops Rescue Kidnapped Individuals in Benue State
Personnel from Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) successfully rescued two individuals who were abducted along the Ochumekwu–Ugbobi road in the Apa Local Government Area of Benue State. The operation occurred following a swift response to an emergency alert.
Security sources reported that the incident unfolded around 8 a.m. on May 10, 2026. Troops from Sector 2 OPWS, stationed at Ochumekwu, quickly mobilized after receiving intelligence regarding ongoing kidnapping activities in the area.
Upon arrival, the soldiers confirmed that two civilians had been taken by armed assailants. The troops initiated a pursuit, tracking the kidnappers’ escape route through the surrounding terrain.
According to reports, the pressure from the pursuing soldiers compelled the criminals to abandon their captives, leading to the safe recovery of the victims.
Military officials indicated that the rescued individuals were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for identification and further necessary procedures.
In light of this incident, security forces have increased patrols and surveillance in the region to prevent future occurrences and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
