Truck crushes bus, leaves female POS operator critically injured in Lagos

LAGOS, Nigeria — A female Point of Sale operator sustained severe injuries when a fully loaded 40-foot container truck lost control and overturned onto a commercial bus and nearby shops on Second Rainbow Road, inward Oshodi.
The incident occurred along the service lane adjacent to the Police Tactical Team Station, as reported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). The authority stated that the truck veered off its course, striking the commercial shuttle bus and damaging several roadside businesses.
The injured woman, who was working under a canopy at the time of the accident, sustained serious injuries to both legs. She was rescued by officers from the Police Tactical Team and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
LASTMA officials arrived promptly to manage traffic, secure the area, and coordinate rescue operations with other emergency responders. The truck driver was arrested and is currently in police custody pending investigation and potential prosecution.
A recovery truck was dispatched to remove the overturned vehicle and the damaged bus. Officers from the Orile-Iganmu Police Division have initiated investigations into the incident.
Despite the gravity of the crash, traffic flow in the vicinity remained largely uninterrupted due to the rapid response of LASTMA personnel.
In a statement, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of regular mechanical checks for heavy-duty vehicles, particularly focusing on braking systems and other critical safety components. He reiterated that inadequate vehicle maintenance poses significant risks to public safety and infrastructure, urging transport operators to adhere strictly to established safety standards.
