Turkey: Osimhen rated among best strikers in the world

Turkish football manager Fatih Terim has praised Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker currently playing for Napoli, as one of the best forwards in the world. Terim, known for his tenure at Galatasaray, highlighted Osimhen’s exceptional skills, including his finishing ability and strong physical presence, as key factors that make him a challenging opponent for defenders.

In comments reported by 24saatgazetesi, Terim noted the difficulties defenders face when matched against Osimhen in one-on-one situations. “Osimhen is an extraordinary striker, among the best in the world,” he said. “As long as he stays focused on the game, it’s really difficult to go one-on-one with him.”

Terim elaborated on Osimhen’s knack for scoring, even in scenarios where opportunities seem scarce. “He can score goals even when it’s not on his mind, even when there’s no scoring opportunity. He’s a striker who earns his own living the hard way,” he added.

While commending Osimhen’s ability to capitalize on defensive mistakes, Terim also pointed out an important area for improvement. “He responds instantaneously to any marginal error committed by opponents; he constitutes an entirely distinct category of player,” Terim said. “His principal requirement is to exercise restraint regarding unnecessary emotional reactions or psychological tension.”

Osimhen has demonstrated his scoring prowess during the early part of the 2026-27 season, netting six goals and providing two assists in four matches for Napoli before suffering a groin injury. Despite this setback, he has been named in Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle’s 24-man squad for Nigeria’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
