UniAbuja student remanded over alleged rape

FCT High Court Remands University Student in Rape Case
The FCT High Court has ordered the remand of 40-year-old Monday Goodluck, a law student from the University of Abuja, in connection with the alleged rape of a first-year Medicine and Surgery student.
Justice M.S. Idris issued the remand order Wednesday after rejecting an oral bail application presented by defense counsel Mr. Samson Francis. Goodluck will remain at the Kuje Correctional Facility while awaiting a formal decision on his written bail request.
Justice Idris instructed Francis to submit a written bail application and serve it to the prosecution. The matter has been adjourned until June 9 for further hearings.
Goodluck faces two charges related to the alleged sexual assault, which prosecutors assert occurred in his residence at approximately 11 p.m. on March 25. Prosecution counsel Alexander Agbo claims that Goodluck deceived the victim into believing he could assist her in obtaining approval for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, known as NELFUND.
In addition to the rape charge, Goodluck is also accused of causing physical injury and instilling fear by forcibly covering the victim’s mouth. These offenses fall under Sections 1 (1) and (2) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act of 2015.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
