PDP Denies Reports of Structural Collapse in Bauchi State

BAUCHI — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has firmly rejected claims that its structure has merged with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), labeling these assertions as untrue and the product of impersonation by individuals posing as party officials.
During a press conference on Tuesday at the PDP secretariat on Maiduguri Bypass, state Legal Adviser Yahaya Garkuwa reiterated that the legally recognized faction of the PDP in Bauchi is led by Hon. Ibrahim Kashim Toro, while Abdulrahman Mohammed heads the party at the national level.
Garkuwa emphasized that ongoing leadership disputes within the party have been the subject of multiple court cases, and he noted that various judicial rulings have consistently upheld the leadership structure associated with the Bauchi PDP.
He highlighted that the Federal High Court had confirmed the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee as the legitimate national leadership of the PDP. The faction led by Tanimu Turaki appealed this judgment; however, the Court of Appeal maintained the legitimacy of Mohammed’s leadership nationally and Toro’s in Bauchi State.
“Dissatisfied with the decision, the Tanimu Turaki faction sought further review at the Court of Appeal, which reaffirmed the leadership of the PDP under Abdulrahman Mohammed and in Bauchi under Hon. Ibrahim’s stewardship,” Garkuwa stated. He added that the matter ultimately reached the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of Mohammed’s faction.
“At the Supreme Court, the judgment confirmed our position: the Tanimu Turaki faction is not recognized by law, whereas the PDP under Abdulrahman Mohammed and the faction under Hon. Ibrahim in Bauchi are acknowledged by law,” he said.
Garkuwa alleged that members of the opposing faction resorted to impersonation and disseminated misleading information after exhausting all legal remedies. “With no options left following the Supreme Court’s ruling, they began to falsely claim leadership roles within the PDP and initiated confusion by asserting that the party structure has collapsed into the APM,” he remarked.
He reiterated that the PDP has not joined the APM or any other political party and remains intact. “We, the legitimate members of the PDP, still belong to the party and have not allied with any other political entity,” he confirmed.
Garkuwa also announced that the Bauchi State PDP leadership is preparing legal action against those falsely presenting themselves as party officials. He urged the public to disregard the rumors of the party’s collapse, emphasizing that the duly recognized PDP is under the current state leadership.
“The authentic candidates’ names for the 2027 general elections have been published by INEC, confirming our status. We challenge the rival faction to provide evidence of their candidates under the PDP platform,” he stated. “If they are genuine members of the PDP, they should be able to name their candidates; they do not have any.”
He assured PDP supporters that the party remains politically active in the state and is gearing up for the 2027 general elections. “The PDP is not collapsing into any political party. It is robust and fully prepared for the upcoming elections,” Garkuwa affirmed.
The press conference was attended by state PDP chairman, along with other party officials, stakeholders, and supporters.
