Former Super Eagles Defender Optimistic About Super Falcons’ Recovery
Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze expressed optimism regarding the Super Falcons’ prospects following a disappointing start at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The Nigerian women’s national team began its title defense with a 3-2 loss to the debuting Scorchers of Malawi, marking Nigeria’s first defeat to a newcomer at the WAFCON finals.
To advance to the knockout stage, the Super Falcons must secure a win against the Copper Queens of Zambia in their next Group C match. Zambia currently leads the group on goal differential after a decisive 6-0 victory over the Cleopatras of Egypt in their opening fixture.
Udeze described the loss to Malawi as a wake-up call for the Super Falcons, expressing confidence that the team will regroup and perform better against Zambia. “This is a lesson, and I hope they’ve learned from it. I believe they will bounce back against Zambia,” he said during an interview with Brila FM.
