We will make sure all schools in Katsina are safe – Gov Radda unveils new policy

Katsina State Government Launches Safety Policy for Schools
KATSINA — The Katsina State Government has officially unveiled its Safety, Security, and Violence-Free Schools Policy, aimed at enhancing the protection of students, teachers, and educational environments throughout the state.
At the launch event, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda characterized the initiative as a significant step towards ensuring the safety of educational institutions and securing the future of the region’s children. He emphasized that education plays a vital role in both development and peace, asserting that effective learning can only occur within secure environments.
Radda expressed concerns about the escalating threats facing schools, including insecurity, gender-based violence, bullying, gang activities, substance abuse, and environmental risks. He highlighted that these issues have disrupted learning and jeopardized the safety of students and staff in Katsina.
“This is not merely the introduction of a policy document, but a definitive assertion of our commitment to transforming every school in Katsina into a safe haven for learning,” Radda stated.
The new policy is based on the 2021 national framework for safe schools, tailored to address the specific challenges and conditions within the state. The governor noted that the framework prioritizes prevention and preparedness while enhancing early warning systems, emergency responses, and recovery mechanisms. It also emphasizes psychosocial support for affected students and teachers.
Radda further explained that the policy integrates school safety considerations into planning, budgeting, and implementation processes across all levels of government.
Additionally, the framework outlines the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions, security organizations, parents, and community leaders, in fostering safer learning environments statewide.
