‘We’re ready for peace, war’ – Bandit kingpin, Bello Turji dares Nigerian govt
Bandit Leader Claims Responsibility for Attacks in Sokoto and Zamfara
Bello Turji, a bandit leader, has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks targeting security operatives in Sokoto and Zamfara states. In a recent video circulated on social media, Turji expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue with the government regarding the ongoing violence.
The video, reportedly recorded on June 20, 2026, features a masked individual, believed to be Turji, speaking in Hausa alongside armed companions dressed in military-style camouflage. He addressed recent clashes in the North-West region of Nigeria.
Turji alleged that various communities, including Shinkafi in Zamfara State and Sabon Birni in Sokoto State, have faced assaults and livestock seizures. He claimed, “Some people who are chasing away our livestock are killing our innocent brothers and sisters… in places such as Shinkafi and Sabon Birni.”
He also stated that his group has executed retaliatory strikes against those they blame for the attacks on their communities. “Allah granted us victory over these people who are carrying out these operations and driving away our livestock,” he said.
In his remarks on potential peace negotiations, Turji indicated his group’s readiness for talks if the government is equally interested. “If the government is ready for negotiation, we are also ready for negotiation,” he asserted. However, he simultaneously warned that his group would continue its armed struggle should military actions persist. “But if they want to continue with force, we are prepared. Our fighters are ready for whatever comes,” he concluded.
