Why I didn’t celebrate goal against Nigeria – Poland star, Wiśniewski

Poland’s Wiśniewski Explains Subdued Celebration After Equalizer Against Nigeria

WARSAW — Przemysław Wiśniewski, Poland’s central defender, addressed the understated nature of his celebration following his late equalizer in Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw against Nigeria in Warsaw.

In the closing moments of the match, Wiśniewski scored with a long-range shot that beat Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, after Paul Onuachu converted a penalty for the Super Eagles. The draw concluded a tightly contested international friendly.

This goal marked Wiśniewski’s first for the national team since his debut during a FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands in September 2025.

Post-match, he explained that his muted response was due to a combination of fatigue and surprise at the goal’s execution.

“I didn’t have a planned celebration because I don’t score often,” he told reporters through Przegladsportowy. “I just struck it, and it went in – pure instinct.”

The 27-year-old emphasized that the physical demands of the match influenced his reaction. “I was fatigued in the 90th minute, so I wasn’t inclined to run around; I merely raised my hands. I’m pleased to have scored such a first goal.”

Wiśniewski expressed uncertainty about his ability to replicate such a moment in the future, noting that he typically does not practice long-range shots during training. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to repeat it soon. I don’t score shots like that in training,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles are looking to improve their performance ahead of their next international friendly against Portugal.
