Why I don’t want to forget Diego Maradona – Messi
Lionel Messi, a former international player for Argentina, expressed his desire to honor the legacy of the late Diego Maradona, emphasizing the significant role Maradona played in elevating Argentina’s status in the world of football.
Messi made these comments following his recent match against Benin Republic, which marked his final appearance for the Argentine national team.
“I don’t want to forget Diego, who put our country where it deserved to be,” Messi said, in remarks reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano. He added, “I know he helped us when he was here with us and also from heaven, every step of the way.”
Diego Maradona, widely regarded as a football legend, led Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup and served as coach of the national team before his death on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60.
