Wife and Son of ISWAP Commander Surrender to Nigerian Military

BOGOR, Borno State — Aisha Musa, the wife of a senior commander in the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), along with their 11-year-old son, surrendered to military forces on July 29, following the recent defection of her husband. The family turned themselves in during an operation conducted by troops from the 3 Battalion (Main) in Kusuma Village around 3:42 p.m.

Zagazola Makama, a security expert, reported that preliminary investigations indicated that Aisha Musa’s husband, a high-ranking ISWAP member serving as the group’s chief financial officer in the Jubillaram enclave, had urged his family to seek safety if he managed to escape.

The commander had surrendered to military forces four days earlier, on July 25, prompting Aisha and their son to follow his directive and seek refuge.

Following their surrender, both Aisha and her son underwent thorough searches and screenings as part of standard procedures for individuals leaving insurgent-held territories. They are currently in the custody of the 24 Task Force Brigade and will be moved to the Headquarters of the 7 Division for further processing.

The increase in the number of defections from insurgent groups is attributed to ongoing military operations under Operation HADIN KAI, which continue to weaken the Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds in the northeastern region of Nigeria.

Despite the challenges, military sources report that the overall security situation remains stable yet unpredictable, as troops maintain high morale and readiness during offensive operations against terrorist organizations.
