Xenophobia: 67 Nigerians repatriated from South Africa arrive Lagos
Sixty-seven Nigerians were repatriated from South Africa on Wednesday night, marking the latest phase of a return initiative organized by a group of private individuals. The group, which has now facilitated the return of 150 Nigerians, previously assisted in the repatriation of 83 individuals.
The returnees arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos aboard a South African Airways flight. Representatives of the philanthropic group, Ikem Ume-Ezeoke and Chief Charles Mba, greeted the returnees and provided each with an immediate financial support package of 50,000 Naira.
Mba, a businessman and philanthropist, urged the returnees to embrace their citizenship and adhere to government regulations as they transition back to life in Nigeria. He expressed confidence that their past experiences in South Africa should not hinder their ability to rebuild their lives and pursue future goals.
“There is still hope,” Mba stated, encouraging the returnees to remain optimistic and not let their overseas experiences diminish their potential for personal growth and development.
Ume-Ezeoke, who oversees the group’s activities, acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian government in facilitating the safe return of its citizens from abroad. He urged the returnees to explore opportunities within Nigeria and contribute to the nation’s development. Ume-Ezeoke emphasized that Nigeria harbors significant potential that can be realized by citizens willing to apply their skills to enhance their own lives and that of their communities.
