‘You’re doing better than some who traveled abroad’ – Presidency tells Nigerians
Nigerians Abroad Facing Employment Challenges, Official Says
The Presidency has asserted that some Nigerians experiencing hardship within the country are, in fact, better off than those who have emigrated in recent years.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, made these remarks during an interview on “The Morayo Podcast Show” on Wednesday.
He highlighted that many Nigerians holding Master’s and Ph.D. degrees have found themselves in low-skilled occupations, such as caregiving and warehouse work, after relocating abroad.
“Some of you Nigerians, who think you are suffering, you’re better off than your colleagues who traveled out five years ago,” Bwala stated.
He elaborated on the situation in the United Kingdom, noting that many highly educated Nigerians are compelled to pursue additional degrees only to end up in roles at care facilities.
“As far as I am concerned, it’s modern-day slavery,” he said of these circumstances, emphasizing that the jobs often do not reflect the educational qualifications of the individuals involved.
