Zamfara lawmaker raises alarm over rising bandit attacks

Concern Grows Over Bandit Attacks in Zamfara State

GUSAU, Nigeria — Suleiman Abubakar Gummi, a member of the House of Representatives for the Bukkuyum/Gummi Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, has voiced serious concerns regarding a recent uptick in bandit attacks within the region. In a statement issued on Monday, Gummi characterized the situation as alarming and called for intensified security measures.

The lawmaker highlighted that the ongoing wave of banditry poses a significant threat to lives and livelihoods, not only in his constituency but also across other areas of Zamfara. He emphasized the need for urgent and coordinated action from relevant authorities to address the escalating insecurity.

Although currently on an official assignment abroad, Gummi reported that he has been receiving regular updates on the attacks. He indicated that he has promptly communicated this information to the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies for their immediate action.

Gummi commended security personnel for their dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property amid challenging circumstances. He encouraged them to implement more effective strategies aimed at curtailing the activities of armed groups and promoting lasting peace in the state.

The lawmaker also reiterated his commitment to supporting security agencies by providing logistical assistance and other necessary resources to enhance their operational capabilities.

In addition, Gummi urged residents to collaborate with security forces by sharing critical information and to continue their prayers for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing violence in Zamfara State.
