2027 campaigns won’t distract NASS from legislative duties – Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that the preparations for the 2027 elections will not interfere with the legislative responsibilities of members of the National Assembly.
Akpabio made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the presidential wing of Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. His comments followed a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District, where he, along with President Bola Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno, received endorsements for their 2027 re-election bids.
In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio emphasized that it is possible to balance election campaigns with legislative duties.
“We are elected for four years, and we are going to work for four years. Anyone who is walking on the tiny rope must be able to do the balancing act,” Akpabio said.
He further noted that since lawmakers represent different political parties, they would not all be attending campaign events simultaneously. “Campaigns can be scheduled for the afternoon or evening while we continue our work in the morning,” he added.
Akpabio reiterated his commitment to the legislative process, stating, “We will continue to make laws to address the needs of the people. It has never affected the work of the parliament.”
