2027: I won’t step down for ADC, Kwankwaso declares

Kwankwaso Affirms Commitment to NDC Candidacy, Criticizes ADC as Insufficient Alternative

ABUJA – Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), confirmed on Sunday that he will not withdraw from the upcoming 2027 presidential race in favor of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He characterized the ADC as offering no viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso’s remarks come amid ongoing political maneuvering in the lead-up to the election, during which he accused the ADC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of allegedly claiming that his candidacy, paired with that of Peter Obi, was working to benefit the APC or that he might step aside for the ADC candidate at the last moment.
In a statement, Kwankwaso criticized the ADC campaign for launching personal attacks against him, Obi, and the NDC, rather than promoting their own candidate.
“We will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party,” Kwankwaso stated emphatically. He dismissed any insinuations that the NDC’s ticket was collaborating with the ruling party, reiterating its dedication to participating in the election.
“The OK ticket is neither working for nor acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates. We see no possibility or reason to withdraw from the presidential race in favor of the ADC candidate or any other,” he asserted.
Kwankwaso also challenged the ADC campaign council to address the allegations made against its presidential candidate by Vice President Kashim Shettima, instead of focusing their efforts on attacking the NDC.
Further, he rejected the ADC’s position as a viable alternative to the APC, asserting that the current government has failed to meet the needs of the Nigerian people.
“The APC-led government has failed Nigerians. The ADC offers no better alternative,” he declared.
Positioning the NDC as a robust opposition force, Kwankwaso expressed confidence in his and Obi’s ability to unite the nation and effectively address key issues such as insecurity, education, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic challenges.
He urged supporters and concerned Nigerians to remain dedicated to achieving electoral success for the NDC, labeling it as the country’s most formidable opposition party.
“I therefore urge all our supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to continue working toward the victory of our great party,” Kwankwaso concluded.
