ADC Challenges Wike’s Predictions Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has asserted that no politician can secure victory in the upcoming 2027 elections through false promises or misinformation.
The statement was a response to remarks made by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, during a civic reception hosted by the City Boy Movement in Omagwa on Saturday. Wike claimed that Rotimi Amaechi, the ADC’s vice presidential candidate, would be defeated by noon on election day. The ADC contends that such assertions do not guarantee electoral success.
In a statement issued Monday in Port Harcourt, ADC state chairman Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa emphasized that “elections are not won by boasts, intimidation, or political strongmen announcing results in advance.” He underscored that the voters will decide the outcome, and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), not Wike, holds the authority to declare election results.
Dimkpa criticized Wike’s actions during the reception, labeling them as excessive political conduct. He noted that Wike chose to hold the event on the same day that Amaechi was burying his mother, which drew attendees from across the country to Ubima. “Wike and the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Charles Wobodo, obstructed traffic and turned the occasion into a platform for political attacks against a man mourning his mother. It was insensitive, provocative, and embarrassing,” Dimkpa stated.
The ADC chairman stressed the importance of recognizing the appropriate times for political discourse and human compassion. “If Wike could not pause his political rivalry even during a time of mourning, the people of Rivers should reconsider who is truly driven by hostility,” he added.
Dimkpa clarified that the ADC refrained from responding to Wike’s provocations during the burial ceremonies, as their focus was on honoring Mama (Dame Ezinne Amaechi). He urged the people of Rivers State to remember that the electoral process belongs to all citizens. “No one owns their votes, and certainly, nobody can predict election results with certainty,” he affirmed.
He also encouraged residents not to be deterred by intimidation and to prepare to elect a credible leader who would positively impact their lives in the forthcoming elections.
During the reception, Wike expressed confidence that all candidates associated with the Rainbow Coalition would win in the upcoming elections.
