2027: ‘Who is more Kwankwasiyya than us? We’ll deliver Kano for Tinubu’ — Jibrin

A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in Kano State during the 2027 presidential election, despite the political clout of former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Jibrin, who represents the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, made his remarks during a segment on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, discussing the evolving political landscape in the region as the election approaches.
Kwankwaso, a two-term governor of Kano, is the running mate to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming election.
Jibrin, previously associated with the Kwankwasiyya political movement, noted his familiarity with its structure and dynamics. He asserted, “Who is more Kwankwasiyya than us? We understand the entire dynamics. If you want me to put a bet, I will put a bet with you: we will deliver Kano for the President (Tinubu), and the president will win in the 2027 election.”
While acknowledging the current political perception surrounding Tinubu’s support in Kano, Jibrin cautioned that these views should not be conflated with actual electoral outcomes, emphasizing that the election results will provide the clearest indication of voter preferences.
“There is always perception, but I keep telling people that what will produce the real picture of what is on ground is the election results. Nigeria is not a country that you can easily gauge public sentiment,” he remarked, also referencing prevailing challenges.
The lawmaker asserted that Tinubu’s popularity in northern Nigeria has grown. “The president has never been liked so much as he is being liked in the Northern part of the country,” he added.
Regarding the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) preparations in Kano, Jibrin highlighted the cooperation among the party’s political leaders as they gear up for the election. “In Kano, we are preparing ourselves. The governor is very much on ground and experienced. The deputy governor is extremely experienced, and key figures like the deputy senate president, Senator Hanga, and others are meeting daily. We understand the dynamics,” he stated.
Jibrin’s comments come amid significant political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, as Obi and Kwankwaso campaign together on the NDC ticket, while Tinubu seeks a second term as the APC candidate. The lawmaker has previously voiced confidence in Tinubu’s ability to defeat Kwankwaso in Kano, although he acknowledged the latter’s ongoing influence in the state.
