2027: Who owns NDC? Fear of moles rocking party spreads

Anxiety Grows Within Opposition Coalition Over NDC Affiliations

Concerns are rising within the ranks of the opposition coalition regarding the National Democratic Congress (NDC), amid suspicions that individuals sympathetic to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may be embedded within its support network.
This unease follows the breakdown of a coalition agreement between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi. Insiders warn that the NDC may not evolve into the independent opposition platform many supporters anticipate.
Multiple sources close to ongoing coalition discussions have expressed growing caution over the unfolding split between Obi and Abubakar, particularly regarding the swift mobilization toward the NDC platform.
One source articulated fears that influential figures associated with the NDC have maintained ties to the ruling party. “We need to be cautious about the Obi-Atiku divide, as the APC may be playing a strategic game unknown to many,” the insider said. “Even the NDC, which people are flocking to, has connections to a former lawmaker who is deeply entrenched in the APC and has access to Aso Villa.”
Concerns about the NDC are not merely limited to its founders but extend to influential supporters perceived to have existing relationships with the APC leadership. “The worry is about key supporters and individuals linked to the initiative who may have allegiances to the Presidency and the APC,” another source noted.
The allegations have not been substantiated, and no evidence has surfaced linking the NDC’s leadership directly to the APC or the presidency as of this report. However, apprehensions persist that potential “moles” could undermine efforts to establish a unified opposition front as the 2027 elections draw closer.
As opposition leaders engage in intensified discussions and realignments following recent defections and coalition negotiations, the implications of these concerns could shape the political landscape in the lead-up to the elections.
