BREAKING: Bandits reportedly abduct Islamic clerics after prayer session at Senator Yari’s residence

Several Islamic clerics were reportedly abducted on Saturday after attending a prayer gathering at the residence of Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari in the Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident was shared by crisis reporter Bakatsine on social media. He stated that the clerics were taken after participating in the gathering, which drew over 2,000 Islamic scholars and imams who came together for special prayers ahead of the upcoming 2027 elections.

Among those reportedly kidnapped are Imam Yahuza, the First Jumma’at Imam in Dogon Madacci; Magawata Abdullahi, the Second Jumma’at Imam in Dogon Madacci; Malam Shehu Dakko; Imam Bala Fagon; and Na’ibi Tasi’u of Tungar Nagudai. Bakatsine noted that the clerics had traveled from various communities in the Bakura and Talata Mafara Local Government Areas to attend the event.

During the gathering, the clerics prayed for peace, national unity, and the success of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the lead-up to the elections.

Bakatsine described the abduction as particularly concerning, given that it occurred at the residence of a prominent political figure. He raised questions about public safety, emphasizing the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara, where bandit attacks and kidnappings have become a persistent threat.

As of this report, no official confirmation of the abductions had been issued from the police or other security agencies.
