30 suspects arrested in Abia as Police destroy criminal hideouts

Abia State Police Conducts Raids, Arrest 31 Suspects

The Abia State Police Command announced a series of successful operations targeting criminals’ hideouts throughout the state, resulting in the arrest of 31 individuals and the recovery of illegal drugs.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Maureen Chinaka reported that the operations focused on areas including the Mission Hill/New Road vicinity, commonly referred to as “Down Below,” as well as the Amuzukwu area. Among the arrested were 30 male suspects and one female gang member. Authorities also destroyed eight camps during the raids, which were believed to be used for drug trafficking and as hideouts for criminal activities.

Chinaka emphasized that these actions are part of an ongoing initiative to dismantle criminal networks in line with directives from the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa. All apprehended suspects have been charged and are currently in custody.

“During the operation, various substances suspected to be illicit drugs were seized,” Chinaka noted. “On July 1, 2026, following continued intelligence efforts, the same locations were revisited, revealing several huts and makeshift camps used for the concealment and distribution of illegal drugs.”

In response to these developments, Commissioner Isa reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to upholding the law and its zero tolerance policy toward criminal activities.
