Ogun State Government Reaffirms Commitment to Road Rehabilitation
The Ogun State Government is committed to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads throughout the state, particularly those that connect educational institutions. This initiative aims to improve transportation accessibility and enhance the socio-economic well-being of residents.
Ade Akinsanya, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, conveyed this message while addressing members of the Nigeria Student Legislative Council during a recent courtesy visit to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. He was represented by Olukayode Akintomide, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
The visit focused on highlighting the condition of several link roads serving tertiary institutions and the impact these roads have on students, staff, and other road users.
Ayoola Afeni, the Chairman of the Council, raised concerns about the challenges resulting from deteriorating road conditions. He emphasized that quality road infrastructure is critical for effective academic activities and urged the state government to prioritize the repair of the identified roads.
In response, Akintomide thanked the students for their engagement and noted that the government has approved the reconstruction of several roads across the state, including some identified by the student representatives. He highlighted that the administration led by Governor Dapo Abiodun has successfully constructed, reconstructed, and rehabilitated over 1,500 kilometers of roads across Ogun State, including those that serve educational communities.
“This effort demonstrates our commitment to enhancing connectivity and facilitating movement across the state,” Akintomide stated.
He assured the students that the ministry would continue to monitor the approved projects and adhere to the necessary technical processes for their implementation. Additionally, he encouraged students to act as ambassadors for infrastructure preservation by advocating against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other actions that could harm public infrastructure.
Mrs. Oladunni Adetona, the Director of Administration and Supplies, welcomed the delegation and expressed hopes that the engagement would strengthen collaboration between the ministry and the student body. She emphasized the ministry’s responsibility in providing, developing, and maintaining road infrastructure throughout the state, noting the importance of regular maintenance for the durability of government investments.
