Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria — A tense situation unfolded Monday morning at Adeola Odutola College during the Ogun East Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel was barred from attending.
Eyewitnesses reported that party members rallied in support of Daniel, chanting his name as he encountered obstacles at the entrance. Videos circulated on social media depicted one of Daniel’s aides engaging with security personnel stationed at the locked gate.
In a video address from his campaign bus, adorned with the branding “BAT/OGD Movement,” Daniel expressed disappointment at the situation. “We are here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred. We are told that we can’t enter,” he stated. Daniel further emphasized, “Let it be said that whatever they do here today is null and void.”
The emergency stakeholders’ meeting, as outlined in an invitation from local party leaders, listed expected attendees such as deputy governors, former and current local government chairmen, councillors, and members of both the state and National Assemblies.
The circumstances surrounding Daniel’s exclusion raised questions about the internal dynamics within the APC in Ogun State.
