Chelsea FC Parts Ways with Head Coach Liam Rosenior Following Disappointing Performance
LONDON — Chelsea FC has terminated the contract of head coach Liam Rosenior after the team suffered five consecutive defeats. The decision comes less than four months after Rosenior was appointed as the permanent replacement for Enzo Maresca.
Rosenior, 41, previously managed Derby County and Hull City before joining Chelsea. During his two-year tenure in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg, he achieved an impressive record, winning 51 of 63 matches. However, under his leadership at Chelsea, the team secured only 11 victories in 23 matches.
The recent string of losses marked a historical low for the club, as it was the first time since 1912 that Chelsea had failed to score in five consecutive matches. The team’s latest setback, a 3-0 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion, has placed them seventh in the league standings, jeopardizing their chances for a spot in the upcoming UEFA Champions League season.
In a statement, Chelsea acknowledged Rosenior’s professionalism and integrity throughout his brief tenure, noting that the decision to part ways was not made lightly. “However, recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season,” the statement read.
Rosenior characterized his team’s performance during his final match as “indefensible” and “unacceptable,” underscoring the challenges faced by the club in recent weeks.
