Jigawa Assembly suspends council chairman


The Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended Najibullahi Falalu Tukur, chairman of the Buji Local Government Council, following allegations of gross misconduct and the misappropriation of public funds.

The decision came during a plenary session after the House adopted the recommendations of the House Committee on Local Government, which were presented by Vice-Chairman Sani Sale Zaburan.

According to the committee’s report, Tukur’s suspension aligns with Section 36, Subsections (2) and (3) of the Jigawa State Local Government Establishment Law, 2024.

House Speaker Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin announced the suspension, instructing Tukur to relinquish all government property to the council’s Vice-Chairman.

Additionally, the Speaker revealed the formation of an ad hoc committee tasked with investigating the misconduct and misappropriation allegations against Tukur. This committee will be chaired by Hon. Usman Abdullahi Tura Musari, who represents Guri Constituency. Other members hail from the constituencies of Maigatari, Malam Madori, Birnin Kudu, Yankwashi, Kafin Hausa, and Sule Tankarkar.

Upon completion of its investigation, the Assembly is expected to review the committee’s findings and recommendations.
