Nigerian Troops Neutralize 31 Terrorists, Rescue Kidnapped Victims in Recent Operations
Nigerian military forces conducted a series of coordinated counter-terrorism operations across the country from April 17 to April 23, resulting in the neutralization of at least 31 terrorists and the rescue of several kidnapped individuals, according to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja.
In a statement released Friday in Abuja, Onoja reported significant accomplishments by troops engaged in Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East. Notably, 21 terrorists were neutralized during an attempted attack at Kukareta, located along the Maiduguri–Damaturu Road in Yobe State.
Additionally, military operations in Borno and Yobe involved ambushes and fighting patrols, which led to the elimination of more insurgents and the recovery of arms and ammunition. Troops also rescued nine captives who had escaped from the Mandara Mountains, thwarting attempts by terrorists to reclaim them.
In a separate development, troops intercepted a suspected logistics courier transporting fuel concealed in sachet water bags destined for terrorist locations.
In the North-West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, military forces executed ambushes and clearance operations, effectively neutralizing terrorists, destroying camps, and rescuing kidnapped victims in Kaduna and Zamfara states. The troops also halted a suspected courier carrying materials intended for improvised explosive devices.
Operations SAVANNAH SHIELD, ENDURING PEACE, and WHIRL STROKE in the North-Central region similarly executed clearance operations, leading to the arrest of suspected terrorists and collaborators, as well as the rescue of additional kidnapping victims. Troops intercepted arms, ammunition, and explosive materials while dismantling terrorist camps and illegal hideouts.
In the South-East, Operation UDO KA troops arrested suspected members of banned groups and other criminal elements, including individuals connected to assaults on security personnel.
Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede praised the troops for their resilience and professionalism in these ongoing operations.
