Kano Police Recover Stolen Vehicles in Separate Operations

Kano, Nigeria – The Kano State Police Command has announced the recovery of two stolen vehicles during operations in the Tarauni and Kumbotso local government areas.

In a statement issued on Sunday, police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the recoveries are part of ongoing initiatives to enhance intelligence-led and visibility policing across the state. He emphasized that these operations demonstrate the command’s renewed commitment to proactive crime prevention and management.

The first vehicle, a 2004 Toyota Corolla with registration number DRA 735AA, was reported stolen from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wuse, Abuja, on April 22. Following credible information, the police acted swiftly. “Operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) swiftly swung into action,” Kiyawa stated, noting the vehicle was subsequently located in the Darmarawa Layout of the Naibawa area in Tarauni. Authorities believe the car was abandoned there by a suspected serial car thief, who remains at large. Ongoing efforts are in place to apprehend the suspect.

In the second case, a Kia Optima belonging to local resident Musbahu Baba Muhammad was stolen on April 24 near a mosque along BUK Road. Officers from the Sharada Division initiated an investigation immediately following the report of the theft. Working together with members of the Zone 5 Ja’en Vigilante Group, police recovered the vehicle early the following day in Ja’en Quarters. “The stolen vehicle was recovered and is now in safe custody,” Kiyawa confirmed, adding that investigations to identify those responsible are ongoing.

Kano Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the officers involved for their professionalism and swift action. He also expressed gratitude to the vigilante group and the public for their cooperation and valuable information.

Kiyawa underscored the importance of community policing in achieving these successes, urging residents to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious activities. “The Command encourages members of the public to continue providing useful information on suspicious persons and activities,” he stated. Efforts to apprehend all suspects connected to the thefts are still underway.
