Effurun Shooting: Delta musician’s mother wants officers killed same way her son died

Mother of Slain Musician Calls for Justice in Delta State Shooting
The mother of Oghenemine Ogidi, a musician shot dead while handcuffed in broad daylight in Delta State, is demanding the death penalty for the four police officers present during the incident.
In an interview with News Central on Friday, she expressed her dismay over the loss of her son, stating that while justice cannot bring him back, she hopes it would demonstrate Nigeria’s commitment to accountability. “Not that it will bring my child back, but I will know that Nigeria tried for me,” she said.
The mother is also seeking accountability for others involved in the case, including the driver who transported the suspect. “I want them to bring the driver. And even the chairman of that park, I want him to be brought to book,” she stated.
She specifically called for the prosecution of all four officers involved in the shooting, including the one who allegedly cocked the gun and the one who fired it. “I want all of them to be brought to book,” she added.
Oghidi, who was 28 years old and known by his stage names Mene and OG Millan, was shot by Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman on April 26, 2026, after being arrested on suspicion of attempting to ship a package containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition. A video of the incident, which showed him bound and pleading for his life before being shot twice, has since gone viral, sparking widespread public outrage.
