Bello El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This announcement was made during the resumption of plenary on Thursday, where Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read letters of defection from the lawmakers.
Alongside El-Rufai, two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Kaduna State—Representatives Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Yahaya Richifa—also declared their switch to the ADC.
In addition, Speaker Tajudeen disclosed the defection of Kamilu Ado, a lawmaker from Kano State, who has moved from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The Speaker also noted the resignation of Rep. Joshua Obika, representing the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory, who has transitioned from the APC to the NDC.
The defecting lawmakers cited internal conflicts and uncertainties within their previous parties as motivations for their decisions.
